Audits and VPATs/ACRs

Understand where you are.

Find accessibility barriers, understand their impact, and give your team practical guidance for what to do next.

Human-led accessibility evaluation

Testing that goes beyond automated checks

C4AT accessibility audits combine expert manual testing, assistive technology, accessibility standards, and human judgment to identify barriers that automated tools alone cannot find.

Automated testing supports our work. It doesn't replace human evaluation.

What We Test

Websites & Web Applications

Pages, templates, components, user journeys, forms, and interactive experiences.

Mobile Experiences

Responsive websites and, when included in scope, mobile applications.

Components & Design Systems

Reusable interface patterns before accessibility problems spread across a product.

Documents & Content

Documents and content that are part of important user journeys when included in scope.

How We Test

We evaluate against WCAG 2.2 Level A and AA and apply accessibility best practices and human judgment to identify barriers that standards alone may not fully describe. Some of our main areas of focus are:

Keyboard

Can everything be reached, operated, and understood without a mouse?

Screen Readers

We test with technologies such as JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver when appropriate to the scope.

Magnification & Visual Access

We examine zoom, reflow, contrast, text enlargement, focus visibility, and other visual access considerations.

Voice & Alternative Input

We evaluate experiences where voice input and other interaction methods are relevant.

Code & Interaction

We inspect structure, semantics, accessible names, states, relationships, components, and interaction behavior.

Standards. Best practices. Lived experience.

How an Audit Works

We don't just tell you what's wrong. We help you understand what to do next.

How an Audit Works

Audit Deliverables

Depending on the scope of the engagement, an audit can include:

Clear Findings

What the accessibility issue is and where it occurs.

Evidence

Screenshots, video, code examples, or other supporting information when useful.

Impact

How the issue can affect people with disabilities.

Standards

Relevant WCAG success criteria and other applicable accessibility requirements.

Priority

Guidance to help your team understand which issues need attention first.

Remediation Guidance

Practical recommendations for addressing identified barriers.

VPATs and ACRs

When included in scope, documentation of product conformance using the appropriate Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) to produce an Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR).

Scope That Fits Your Work

Audits can be shaped around your product, development stage, budget, and the questions you need answered.

  • Websites
  • Apps
  • Kiosks
  • Intranets
  • Documents
  • PDFs
  • Other digital experiences and products

Lived Experience Matters

Technical conformance is only part of accessibility. User testing with people with disabilities can be included in an audit to uncover barriers, confusion, and usability problems that technical evaluation alone may not reveal.
